About
The Center was formed in February 2017, with current research activities funded through the FDA grants and contracts.
Through its focus on abuse deterrent and intervention-based products, the mission of the center is to increase scientific, technological, and engineering-based knowledge to improve both patient and public health by:
(1) Understanding the scientific fundamentals of the design and failure modes of abuse deterrent and intervention-based products; (2) Developing rigorous science driven tools and analytical methods for evaluation of abuse deterrent and interventional-based products; (3) Facilitating the development of improved abuse deterrent and intervention-based products; (4) Improving regulatory science of opioid and intervention-based products and inform regulatory assessment of these products; (5) Educating physicians and public on abuse deterrent and intervention-based products; and (6) Overcoming the gaps that exist in ADF development.
The team’s research includes identifying novel excipients and manufacturing processes for preparing abuse deterrence formulations; and, understanding the failure modes of abuse deterrent formulations and approaches adapted by drug abusers to tamper with opioid products in the real world… among other.
Any NIPTE faculty member with relevant experience is eligible to join the Center. For more information contact the NIPTE office.
